Grooming

Washing, clipping, nails and ears

A wash, a tidy-up, nails and ears, at a pace the animal can cope with.

From From 15 JD, by size and coat About 60 minutes
A full groom is a wash, dry, brush out, a clip if the coat needs one, nails, and a look at the ears. How long it takes depends more on the animal than on the coat. If your dog or cat has never been groomed, say so when you book. We take a first visit slowly, and sometimes a first visit is only part of a groom on purpose, because a bad first experience makes every one after it harder. Matted coats are their own conversation. A badly matted coat cannot be brushed out without hurting the animal, so the honest answer is often a short clip and starting again. We will tell you that before we start, not halfway through.

Common questions

How long does it take?
Usually an hour or so, but a nervous animal or a heavy coat takes longer. We would rather take the extra time than rush it.
My cat hates being handled.
Tell us when you book. Some cats manage fine once they are here and some do not, and it is better to find that out with a plan than without one.
