The microchip is only as good as the phone number

1 min read

A microchip holds a number and nothing else. It is not a tracker and it cannot tell anyone where an animal is. What it does is tell whoever scans the animal which registration to look up. So the failure is almost never the chip. It is the registration: a phone number from two handsets ago, an address from a flat somebody moved out of, or a chip still registered to the breeder who sold the animal four years back. Check yours. If you cannot remember which registry it is on, bring the animal in and we will scan it and tell you the number, which is the first step to finding out. And update it the same week you change your number, not the week you lose the animal.
